Butter pretzels, schnapps, Lauterbrunnen

I woke up in a zombie state from the damn sleeping pills. This is why I don’t take them. Xanax doesn’t make you feel this bad in the am. We slept through most of the 10 hour flight direct SFO to Zurich. "Mr Rogers and I" and "I, Tonya"were really enjoyable and started this l off really well, some tears and laughter.
We landed 10am but weren’t picking up Anthony and Christine until almost 1, so we headed to downtown Zurich after a jerk immigration agent gave us some shit for thinking any empty Swiss immigration line and a head nod meant come over to my kiosk. ... “Did someone call you over here? You are not European. Everyone wants to be European but you are not”. Yeah OK dick, just let me into your country.
We walked around downtown by the beautiful blue, glacial melt river. The sun was shining and the temperature was perfect . A milk coffee and an espresso, 2 butter  pretzels and we were ready ... until we ran into another vendor selling some legit butter pretzels, then of course we had to buy 3 because it’s sooo good! Get in my belly!
We pick up the kids after paying $15 for the  waiting area at the airport. The Swiss manage the amount of people driving in and around the airport by charging money to enter the pickup area... lots of money (this is the expensive part of the trip). I wish our public transportation was good enough to make this possible in the states. Then we were off to Lauterbrunnen.  I couldn’t keep my eyes open or stay awake most of the way, although it’s so beautiful it’s hard to believe it's all packed into such a small area.
We met up with Travis and headed to Mürren. Up a gondola, across the cliff ridge by train, and then the “hike” to our pension. It wasn’t as easy as originally communicated (Andy said it's just around the corner)... but that’s OK, we’ve been sitting all day and need to shake off the jetlag.
The views are so amazing with mountains towering another 9000' above us. Perhaps one of the most beautiful places in the world? After we settled into our patio seats with a gorgeous view of the Alps, we ordered drinks and reminisced about our days journey. For dinner we ordered pomme frites, käse fondue, rösti mit speck and, of course, schnapps to wash it all down. We watched the sun set for on the Eiger, Mönch, and Jungefrau mountains across the deep valley. Such a good way to start the trip. The alps are magical, great food, good friends. Now we can finally unwind and start to relax.
