Why is packing the last thing we do? 9/15/18
It seems like the most important items is always the last task. I think I need to get all the other stuff out of the way so I can focus. Did I need to go through the junk drawer before we leave? Yes. Did we have to cut down a tree today? Yes. It finally felt like fall today, which made me a little sad that we are missing our favorite season (Note to self for the next 2 months off). Well it's 11pm and we still aren't packed so I don't feel relaxed yet. We have our gear out and we are so close, yet so far. We don't leave until 10am so I guess we have plenty of time?
Andy's going to stay up hella late doing super important things. He spent a lot of time today working on tick removers we are going to bring w/ us to hand out. He made 6 molds and has been cranking them through. Huge thank you to Gretchen Skillman at Tap Plastics who gave him excellent advice and donated a ton of free material for the molds after he explained that he wanted to design a tick remover that could be quickly cast in large amounts so he could give them away to the people we come across in rural Africa. That's rad.
So here's the travel plan, our areas of interest, campsites, and danger areas on this niftly map we created. We'll try to update as we go. First stop: Switzerland to meet up w/ Anthony, Christine, and Travis for a short stint in the Alps. This was the consolation prize. Why? Well I got everyone pumped for Oktoberfest. It was going to be a great intro to our trip! Plans were underway, Airbnb's were booked. Then one fateful evening Travis said, "you guys must have the underground connection to Oktoberfest since we are in Germany before it starts". Ummmm wat? My eye got huge, Andy glared at me. Yes, I was wrong, so damn wrong. It starts the day we leave so we couldn't make any of it work. Soooo, everyone still bought their plane tickets and we are changing the destination. Wurst and schnitzel and beer will still be had, no worries! I'm beat, time for bed for an early rise one last morning in the 'Mont!
