Then the fire started spinning
Up at 7 because it's impossible to sleep in that noise and heat. We got some shitty expensive breakfast from a local shack. Andy got a breakfast burrito and I got a veggie omlet. His was so tiny and mine had nasty green peppers on it- the whole breakfast cost us $15 Belize. We got our luggage, said goodbye to Stav, Alon, and Airean, and headed to the boat taxi and saw the Britsh couple from Tikal. It's a small island and you run into everyone you know a couple times.
We reached Key Ambergris and poor Andy had to haul the 75lb bag all the way to Pedro's Hotel in the sweltering heat and it wasn't close. When we arrived we though we were in heaven. The hotel had a pool and our room had air conditioning! I was so happy I couldn't stand it. We through our bags down and jumped in the pool. This place is bomb! The people are so nice, they have food and a bar, AND they clean your room everyday! Finally some relaxation!
We rented some bikes from the Hotel and headed south to Nay's place. Along the way we stopped to see Nina at the Victoria House. This place was pimp! I asked Andy if they allow people like us on the grounds. I thought I saw Nina at the pool so I yelled her name and got no response (she had her headphones on). I walked up to her and said her name some more. I wasn't sure it was her but I figured there probably weren't too many Indian ladies staying there by themselves. I awkwardly tapped her arm and it was her. We chatted for a bit, made plans to share a cab to the happy hour, and we continued on our journey.
The Redonda house was less than 2 miles from our Hotel but the road made it challenging to ride on- it's better than a golf cart or a car. We saw the fam's and Devon and Megan. The house was pretty amazing and it had an infinity pool. We hung out for a bit, drank some Belikin, watched Renee freak out a bit, then headed back to Pedro's into the wind. Half the road is unpaved w/ lots of potholes; the rest is made out of something like bricks so it's not nice to ride on- we'd try to ride in the gutter as much as possible.
Back in the pool to cool off from the ride home and relax a bit. We were so relaxed I only had 10 min to get ready. The light in our room sucks to Andy had to hold the headlamp for me to put on makeup like a gentelman. Good thing I'm not a girl that takes too long to get ready. Nina stops by in a taxi and we head to the Kama Lounge on the north side of San Pedro. Like most places in Belize the drive up to it was sketchy, lots of run down buildings and construction, but once we were inside it was very nice. It was set up outside w/ large pieces of fabric flowing in the wind. We got some rum punch and relaxed while the fam's showed up in a boat.
After a fab evening all of us headed back to their house to watch Renee's big performance. She was freakin out because they didn't have the fuel she needed, or at least what she was used to. Instead they bought citronela oil- it burns hotter and transfers easier. I was the fire safety person, if she caught on fire I had to put her out. Nay's outfit was fantastic. She practiced for a bit, I put out the coys, and she was ready for the show. She did wonderful and looked very comfortable as she spun fire around her groom-to-be. Tom was deeply touched when she was done, so proud of her and all her hard work- she's been practicing for 9 months.
