Thorang Base Camp 16k 12/13 Day 11
Not sure what happened last night but some dude started screaming at 11 and flash lights were going crazy. It was probably the roxi.
It was cold this am!! The dude wipes froze on me and the toilet water was frozen solid. Our sleeping bags are the best thing we've ever brought. We are so warm it's hard to get out. We got a huge breakfast of museli, potatoes, boiled eggs, Tibetan Bread w honey and tea (I ate most of it). We were going to get a late start but the sun wasn't hitting us yet and I was getting really cold. We started at 8 and reached Thorang Phedi in less than 2 hours. It wasn't too intense except for the 10 switchbacks we had to clim because we followed the porter instead of the route.
We stopped for some masala tea and continued on to high camp. It took us an hour of switchbacks to make it to High Camp but we did it! We climbed 2133 ft to 16k today and we feel good. Gotta love those side trips we took! We are the only ones on the mountain again. I guess the people we were traveling w made it over this am. The sun is shinning, the sky is blue, and we can see the tops of several snow covered Annapurna. So far making it to High Camp was totally worth it!
Just as we were settling down to enjoy the fire, 12 early 20somethings barged in and ruined the vibe. They were the worst. I have a hard time imagining I was that bad but maybe I was. We ate our 2nd rösti of the day w yak cheese and veg fried noodles plus warm rice pudding then we fled for our room. Kids say the dumbest shit, and they are loud. Might as well get to bed early since tomorrow is a big day!!
