Liebe Deutschland! 1/24-25
Our travel day was uneventful. Short 20 min flight to Malè, then to Sri Lanka, then Delhi, then a red eye to Zürich. The good news is we made it out of the Maldives without them confiscating our Buddah art! We read that "other icons" (except Allah) weren't allowed. I took it lightly until they searched my bag when we entered the country. I took everything out. They thought my candle holders were a statue of Buddha. I thought we were safe until they stopped me leaving the country. I forgot our art was nothing but "other icons". Oh well, no harm no foul. The flight on Swiss Air was so nice except for the very unhappy child. I'm not a fan of babies on flights, but this one was the only one that cried- every several hours. Grrr.
Anyways, jumped in our tiny car and took the autobahn to Marckolsheim where we stocked up on cold cuts, cheese, and breads. Mmmm.
The weather is chilly but really nice and sunny during the day. Not the blustery cold I was expecting. We chilled and did some laundry- the clothes we hand washed in the Maldives stunk. That desalinated water was funky. Us trying to figure out the washer and dryer is hilar. Andy- speaks German doesn't do laundry so doesn't understand the standard cycles, me- opposite. The settings under cotton: extra, cabinet (that's the translation), iron dry. Ummm OK. We'll just go w one.
We decided to stay in for dinner (yay!) and have flamkuchen, salat, und rotwein. It was amazing and now I'm tired plus I ate a chocolate donut for desert. Glad to be back in civilization (cars w seat belts, strong wifi, clean water). I will sleep well tonight.
