RIP Bowie (and we're in the desert) 1/12
This am we walked through the streets and up to the fort, Mehrangarh, on top of the hill. I'm forted/palaced/templed out so I'm light on descriptions. It was a cool fort, lots of jalis's (stone carved screens) and havelis's (stone cared doorways). This is supposed to be the blue city but we only saw a couple blue houses out yonder. We left for Jaisalmer and the Thar desert around noon.
Along the way Andy snapped some pics of women all dressed in red saris excavating a reservoir in a fireman line. We dodge more cows and dogs on the way. A couple camels didn't make the road crossing. Then we finally see sand dunes and wild camels.
And Bowie fucking died. I can't properly mourn without listening to him and watching Labyrinth. What a legend. It was always a dream to see him.
We made it to Jaisalmer. It's as deserty as expected. It's actually an air force and army base here as its close to the Pakistan border. A jet flew over us in Jodhpur earlier today and we've heard several land here in Jaisalmer off in the distance. Our hotel is pretty cool. We chilled on the rooftop w some beers and a great view of the fort on the hill. I kinda feel like I'm in Homeland here and should wear a headscarf although I haven't seen any Muslims but I may do it anyways (and we're drinking).
Walking to dinner we turned on the main street and it was lined w dudes. I mean only dudes sitting all along the street. It was weird and creepy. Why the hell are there so many dudes in India? Jaisalmer has an even bigger male:female ratio than the rest of India. We headed out to dinner for a rooftop place w a little view of the fort. My man needed some meat and was still peeved at the veg place we are at last night so we got tandoori chicken and some Indian stuffed tomatoes. It was pretty good. Indian food is still a little rough for me. Andy asked if I could eat some palak- umm fuck no (puke night food). I gaged when I wrote that. The streets are alive w the honking and honking and honking. Can't wait for some P&Q. Stoked to have internet in our room for some Netflix. It's the simple things that matter.
