We made it! Get me a beer 11/29
We finally reached the gate for Kathmandu at 3 AM. Our flight was supposed to leave around 7 but it was scheduled for 8:45 so I took a nap sitting up on the chairs. I'm getting good at this.
A short easy flight and we finally made it! We paid the $40 each Nepal visa and grabbed a cab for the Avalon hostel.
The hostel is in Thamel off the main road so it's a little quieter. It's on the 2nd floor w great views of the city to the West, not so good for earthquakes. We can see kids playing and women cleaning, not sure what the men are doing. Not bad for $12/night, we even have our own bathroom. Andy is excited for the twin beds since I won't be kicking him tonight. Can't wait to see how much places outside the city cost.
It's noon so we rest for a moment then head out to explore the city a bit. We find the main shopping area in Thamel, get some water, a scarf for all this smog, and a map of Annapurna. We finally grab some beers and food at a rooftop Thai restaurant. I order the soup as foreigner medium spicy and it's still too hot for me. We relax and feel whats it's like on the first real day of our vaca. Nepal resembles India more than I expected. I'm sure that will change as we get out of the city.
We head back for the room and decide to take a nap at 3. I don't think that's a good idea. I bet we end up sleeping the rest of the night. Yep, we do.
