Finally nature! 12/3 Day 1
Up at 6 and enjoying the sounds of the water rushing near us. We slept well in our sleeping bags, well I did. Andy had to get his in the middle of the night because he passed out w all his clothes on. We took our time getting ready. The young girl didn't understand me asking for breakfast so we packed up and headed out before 8. The trail was the road at this point, however there are no cars. We hiked up and up and up. The scenery was beautiful. We passed villages covered in rhododendrons and hibiscus. Villagers were extracting oats from the stalked. The children are adorable! They love saying "namaste" as we pass. One little girl got me w a namaste and wanted some of my Pringles she saw on the outside of my bag (I put them there in case of emergency). The hillsides were covered in rice fields. Baby goats and chickens in th villages. This is what we've been waiting for!
We stopped at the top of the hill at Bahundanda for some Nepali tea and rested under Banyan tree. It was after 10 and we pushed on. Back down the hill undoing all the uphill work we put in. We made it to Ghermu Phant and I needed to eat. We ate some veg fried rice (again) and veg curry rice w egg (light on the curry- not by choice), wrapped it up w Nepali tea. Food was just what we needed to reenergize us. Two little boys walked by and hooked us w some namastes then asked for chocolate. Andy couldn't resist so we got out one of our little Snickers and shared it w them.
The last leg was down the hill to Syange by the river and waterfall. We crossed a long shifty bridge that some goat hearders were trying to push their heard across. The goats weren't having it so the guys were picking them up and shoving them. We got a room. It's after 2. Time for some beer and wifi! We passed out at 8 after our dinner of momo's, worth the 2 hour wait.
We hiked for ~5 hours today, 6.7 miles, 1300 feet up net (several ups and down). https://www.flickr.com/photos/cleatus_cobb/
