Don't get stuck between a tuk tuk and a cow 1/11

The dogs bark and howl all night long, even in the city. Andy wasn't feeling too swift, said he feels like he ate a jar of mayo. Haha. No doubt. That stuff was so rich I couldn't dip my naan in it. After our plain breakfast of eggs and toast we headed for the City Palace.

The palace is the largest in Rajasthan and is very nice. So many rooms, painted or lined w mirrors. Views of the lake and city. Intricate paintings. Lots of dudes offering a tour. It's hard for them to understand no. Andy had to leave his camera at the door or pay. I think all the people telling us what we can and can't do constantly is wearing, Andy is getting more vocal w the hawkers each day.

We stopped to buy some art in the market. The dude paints similarly to the ones in the palace and the fine details. He had a picture w Judy Dench in the room. The Marigold Hotel movie was filmed in Udaipur and he did some art for the set. He learned everything from his father and does art for textbooks sometimes. Quite amazing.

We stopped by a temple made of stone and for juice before our long car ride. On the way to the car, we were walking on a narrow street w rickshaws trying to pass. I had a cow walking toward me but couldn't get out of the way because of the traffic. The fucker nailed me w his nub horns in the arm and thigh. Are you OK asked a lady? Yeah, just startled and probably bruised. Good thing the horns weren't sharp. Asshole.

On the way to Jodhpur we stopped by a Jain Temple so Sanjay could get some lunch. The temples were on nice grounds but nothing has been kept up. We walked around and stretched out legs enjoying the perfect weather and trees. There were grey/ black faced monkeys everywhere. They are bigger than the others at the monkey temple and can probably do more damage. A group of local lady tourists walked by us and all said hi and laughed. Locals think we are hilarious.

We also stopped so Andy could get way to close to a cow w huge horns to take a picture. Did you not see what happened earlier today?! Another stop was for watching a farmer walk a cow for a cow-driven water pump. Another was to take a picture of a farmer walking a camel overloaded w hay. We drove through a lot of farm land. The women in the fields and the men sitting, maybe one is tending to the herd. The gender divide is wide here. I rarely see genders intermingling. It must be odd for them to see Andy and I so close. So many fields of mustard.  The women are all still wearing their colorful saris. The men are super skinny wearing all white w large turbans on their heads. We are getting close to the edge of the desert. The land kinda looks like Africa- flat, dry, flat-topped trees spread about. The red Indian sun setting over the fields.

We made it to Jodhpur and walked to dinner. Walking in any city here is maybe scarier than being in a car. You have to watch what's coming, for kids begging, where you step, directions without street signs, and try to hold your breath all at the same time. We made it to a rooftop restaurant with an amazing view of the fort. Pizza tonight after still feeling the Indian from last night. A wonderful thick creamy makhania (saffron flavored) lassi for dessert. Fireworks are going off from a wedding. Calls to prayer in the distance. A parade through the narrow streets. God speed on our walk back.
