Feliz Año Nuevo de Patagonia! 12/31
Up at 6:30 to get our 8:30 bus back to Puerto Natales. It rained last night which is enjoyable in the tent. We ate breakfast which consisted of bread, jam and cereal. One of the jams was made out of tomatoes, I'll have to try that at home. No egg since the dude was working the morning shift. He's not very helpful nor friendly. When I paid I told him we didn't get any towels, so you want cheaper? Well yes. He pounded the keyboard and charged us $14 for the night. Whatever dude, you didn't give us an egg this morning.
The bus ride to PN was uneventful except for a little paranoia at the Chile border crossing due to our last experience a couple years ago. We threw the meat and cheese away Andy bought in Chatén since Chile is so strict about what you can bring into the country. They scanned our day bags and a dog sniffed the luggage. Everything passed, then I realized I had old cheese and peanuts in my bag. That could have been unfortunate.
We arrived in PN after 2 and bought a bus ticket for PA at 1 the following day. Looks like we're staying in PN for New Years! I was kinda concerned that we'd have to hitchhike to PA since a lot of things are closed in the 1st. We went back to El Patagonico since they were so awesome. Luckily they had our same private room available! Stoked, we walked into town to see what to do for dinner. Andy was still eyeing Don Jorge and they just so happen to have a New Years dinner special. Sold!
A couple TDP beers outside to enjoy the warm sun and a stop by the crazy busy market to get vino and breakfast for tomorrow. Headed for dinner at 8 and there was only one other couple in the restaurant at the time. We started the meal w a Pisco Sour and avacado w chicken salad. Andy glanced over at the family next to us and saw a little kid puke in his hands. Aww poor kiddo. Glad we weren't eating at the time. Then came the vino and lamb lots of lamb. We finished it off w a sweet mousse, I think mine was rhubarb and Andy had the Calfaté berry. Very good, I'm about lambed out.
Walking back to the hotel we stopped by the bar for a drink. Andy let me choose so I ordered us a whiskey and they poured w a very heavy hand of the Johnny Red Label. Back at the hostel for New Years. We drank w a family from Columbia, they were making corn patties which is a New Years tradition. There was also two girls from Australia and the owners, Monica and Andres. I pulled out the iPad for the countdown and Andres shared his champagne w us. Hugs and kisses all around. Such a fantastic way to spend New Years.
