Long Travel Day SFO to Bali 4/15
We headed for the airport for our 1:15 am flight Thursday night. Late night is a great time to fly. No one on the roads, hardly anyone at the airport. We checked in and our flight is stopping in Hong Kong. This is the second time I booked a flight and it didn't show a layover! WTF. I don't MIND a layover, I just like to know about it! OK whatever. Time for a celebratory drink! Except, there are no bars in the international terminal? What the hell? How do we christen our vacation w/o a cocktail? Our only chance was a market that closed at 11. Oh well, we'll save it for later. Although we were so tired, we managed to stay awake until 3am so we could eat our dinner on the flight. Dim sum, mmm. Time for some Xanax! Good night.
I woke up at 9am, 6 hours isn't too bad, and I slept pretty well except for the baby that screamed but the drugs were working hard enough that I didn't stay awake for too long. I worked for a bit since it was such a long flight. We landed in Hong Kong after 13 hours. A short layover running across the airport and we jumped on the next leg for Singapore.
About 4 hours later we landed and had a longer layover. We walked, not much to see. Still wanting a drink, we stopped at a pub. There are 3 places to drink in the airport and they are all American style. Wine please! 30 Singapore Dolars (this is the correct spelling) for one glass! This is crazy town! 20 for a pint of beer? I settle for 15 for a vodka soda. I could never live in a country that costs this much to drink, there I said it. We ate some Shu Mai, Pork Buns, soup, at a small stand to tie us over, mmmm. We found a binary screen people stand in front of to take pictures.
Final leg to Bali! We get one last nap in since we land at 7 and need to stay awake for several hours. 28 hours later we made it! The hotel picks up at the airport (I can get used to this). A short 10 min ride to the hotel. The H Sovereign was lovely. The room was very nice (for our travels). We hit the hotel roof bar and pool. The weather is warm but not too hot like I was worried about. We relax, enjoy being in one spot not in an airport. We crash out around 9:30. Looking forward to exploring tomorrow!!
