Swimming under a castle 6/10
Up at 6 due to Andy because he was up and 4 and that's what he does. We slowly got our stuff together and left our little diamond in the rough. We went to Kira where there were actually shops open, we stopped for an espresso but opted for a frappe since the machine was cold. Andy made us cheese and bologna treats and we sat on the he oceanfront. We had a little puppy friend visit and Andy gave him some bologna, so adorable, even with his mange.
We journeyed down to the south of Greece and landed in Nafplio around 1. It's a beautiful Venitian town on the Argolikos Gulf. The temperature was perfect, warm with a breeze and the sun coming in and out of the clouds. I walked around, up and down the streets happy to be in an area with people and open shops (although I wasn't shopping). Nafplio has a castle at the top of the mountain that spans the length of the old city. The streets have shops and restaurants lined on them with colorful walls and flowering vines crossing the walkway. This is the Greece you see in tourist books. I figured this was a perfect time for a glass of wine. I trusted they would have thin glasses here (yep I was being a huge wine snob). For only €3 I had a wonderful glass of white wine.
After walking around for a coule hours we went to the beach on the other side of the city. It was a rocky beach but very present. No charge for admission, maybe one time there used to be. It looked and felt like a club however anyone was allowed it. It guess they aren't picky these days. The water was crystal clear and refreshing. I had to jump in because I couldn't walk over the rocks, I'm a wuss when it comes to walking on things that hurt my feet. It was really cool because you could see the castle towierng over the mountain on the cliff leading to the beach. It was a small beach but just what I needed.
We headed out again to look for a sleeping spot and dinner. We didn't have plans of here're to head next and we ended up heading down the eastern peninsula. The only thing Lonley Planet said about it was it has great pomegranates. I guess we'll expect the crowds to be to a minimum. We drove and drove, taking the road that had no lines up and over the mountain to a town that was supposed to be where the Athenians go. Well they weren't there but we stopped for some delish dinner anyways. We had our first nice/complete tzakaki, dolmas, salad, souvlaki and white wine. I guess they give you dessert even if you don't ask for it? I couldn't eat any souvlaki since I was suffed but I managed to put away some fig cake with ice cream.
We headed back out to find out camping spot. The restaurant owner showed us two locations on the map close by. Either he doesn't know how to look at a map or he's never been camping. He pointed us to a church and a rundown house. We drove, it was 10 and we were tired. I didn't feel comfortable wild camping because we couldn't see anything at night. We made a right down a raid because it had a small sign with a tent on it. No, it ended up being a sign for Epsilon. Haha dammit. It was very questionable. We kept driving and found an open campground and excitedly took it for the night.
