Athens and lots of history- check! 6/11

Up at 7:30 because the sun is beating on our tent, the roosters don't help either. The camp guy said we could get some coffee and wifi in the town as it's big enough, I guess this is subjective since there wasn't much in the town. I got a frappe and Andy got a Turish coffee, time to head out, nothing to see here. We went back in Ermioni since we knew we could get a proper breakfast. Unfortunately we stopped by a cookie bakery he saw yesterday. The baker was very nice and gave us a cookie fresh from the oven to sucker us in and it worked. We ended up with €15 worth of fucking cookies and sweets. Maybe it was the cookie we tasted, maybe it was the huge Greek dude in the bakery that scared Andy into it. It's funny because we don't eat cookies, yet we had a couple lbs of them. We stopped for another coffee and tried a cookie. It was good but so sweet and I just wanted some savory. Back in the car to head for Athens. We were hungry so we tried a sweet and damn it was so sweet it made me nauseous.

We reached Athens early afternoon and found an awesome parking spot. Was it awesome or will be be towed? Only time would tell. We walked along the trail to the ruins lined with restaurants. Wwe stopped for more coffee and a little bit of hydration. I haven't eaten anything besides the sweet overload earlier, what's the worst that can happen? We paid our €12 for our drinks and headed up the hill for the Panthenon. Th cost of all food and drinks was now 3-4x more expensive of course. I miss our €1 coffees.

The walkways were made of marble which made it challenging for someone like like me, slipping and tripping. Our legs were still very sore which made walking down the stairs very interesting. It wasn't very crowded so taking pictures was easy, even the the pics we got standing in front of the Panthenon alone. It was hot but totally worth it. After the Panthenon I was starving and didn't care where we ate. We stopped to eat at the local tousit trap. We paid €9 for a gyro, we aren't in €2.5 gyro territory anymore. I needed that meal before someone got stabbed then we saw the Zeus something then walked over to the stadium with our €12 tickets and couldn't get in. Whatever, we kicked this history in the ass today.

We headed back for the car, hoping it was still there since we had such an awesome parking space. Once we saw it had a celebratory drink then planned our next move. We decided on a camping spot outside Athens instead of sleeping in the airport. We headed in the wrong direction to get out of Athens, toward Piceaus the dangerous town of sailors. We finally found a way to turn around and drove for 20 min or so. We thought we were almost out of Athens and we just passed the damn Panthenon which is in the S of the city. Andy drove like a beast in the insane traffic until we got to the east end and out of the city to Afir. We got to the site early enough to hit up the beach. It looked like a regular camping site no one was at until we passed a swanky restaurant in our suits. Another diamond in the rough. We had fave bean dip, zucchini balls and calamari (so much for me not eating it) with wine of course. It was the perfect amount and I was ready for bed. We hit the sack around 11 and we had to get up at 3 for the airport. It's going to be a long day tomorrow.
