Lobster Fest in Cay Caulker
Up at 5 for our 530 pickup. We got up just in time to see part of the sunrise and take some pics. The rainbow over the lake was beautiful. They showed up at 6 and we headed for the boarder. The ride was pretty uneventful but we met some cool people. A guy Alon and girl Stav both from Isreal and a couplel from LA with a dog. I know I know, I thought what asshole brings a dog to Guatemala, but it turns out they were going to stay in Belize for two months. OK that makes sense.
It turns out Alon is a Dive Master so we chatter about diving for most of the trip. We got along pretty well and they were heading to Caye Caulker as well so we all headed out together. We hit Belize City after 10, not bad considering it took us 5 hours to get to Flores. We hoped on a water taxi for an hour ride to Caye Caulker for the last day of the Lobster Festival. Along the way we picked up another chick from Canada named Aereal. A dude took us to a hostel for $10/night. Yes, I'm finally doing it, I'm staying in a dorm. Not too bad since I know most of the people in there.
It's hard to believe I'm finally on a warm vacation! Andy and I've only gone to cool/cold places so this is a first together. Now I'm ready for some scuba. We walked around the small island and signed up for two dives tomorrow to Esmerelda and a dive on Tuesday for the Blue Hole. We ate some bomb lobster kebob and a whole lobster soaked in garlic butter. Up at 5 for our 530 pickup. We got up just in time to see part of the sunrise and take some pics. By now I've been profusely sweating and needed to rise. Andy and I headed for the ocean. It was so warm- oh how I miss warm oceans! The current was hella strong but we found a sandbar to stand on for a bit. It was warm and beautiful. A bar nearby made it feel a little like spring break w/o all the assholes. Back to the dorm to take a shower, well wash my body at least, I don't think I'll wash my hair until I get back. Andy just brought back some snacks, beer, and soap for some laundy. Time to enjoy the warm evening. I need a hammock.
