Nurse Sharks and margaritas
Up at 7 because it's hot as balls in this dorm and the sun is shining in my eyes. How can anyone sleep in this humidity? God I love California's weather. We were going to have breakfast before our dive trip but Andy had some issues getting is borrowed dive computer to work. Good thing he had one to borrow- our Dive Master's were assholes.
The trip out to the first dive site was interesting. The water is calm until you hit the reef- then you hit the big waves. We rode a rollercoaster for 20 min to Esmerelda. The water was so warm and there was a large Nurse Shark right below us as soon as we dove in. I didn't have enough weight so the Diver Master Alex had to get me an extra 4lbs for a total of 16.
The vis wasn't that great but it was still pretty good. The coral reef wasn't as colorful as I was expecting. It was mostly brown and a funky green. Not sure what's happening too it but I might have gotten here too late. Alex was an idiot diver. He told us our max depth would be 50 and it was 90. I'm not sure he even had a dive computer. His profile was going up and down. Some people were low on air and he didn't pay it much attention. This is exactly why Andy and I brought out own computers. We were at 90 for quite a while- not good.
The Nurse Sharks were pretty cool and they aren't scared of you either. I was so close I wanted to touch one. It wasn't until after the dive Andy mentioned it was OK to touch one. The first dive was pretty uneventful because we were so amazing at our Dive Master's ignorance. The second dive was better- we swam through a 15ft cave that was dark and narrow. At first it was very intimidating since it was pitch black and my tank kept banging the ceiling. Then you see a bit of light and it gives you hope (no metaphor intended). Andy took a cool video that I'll post. We also saw a turtle that didn't care people were around. I was so close- it was amazing watching him eat. There were lots of huge Groupers too. Getting back in the boat was quite difficult because of the huge waves. A couple girls puked and decided to stay at San Pedro for the second dive.
Back around 3 and Andy is really burned from sitting at the back of the boat. He's going to pay for it tomorrow. I'm going my damndest to stay out of the sun but I got burned a little too. We headed back to the same restaurant we ate at last night. Andy and I got lobster ceviche and a lobster BLT. They were pretty good except for all the mayo on the sandwich. Why mess up a good thing? I was wondering if they served immitation crab although dudes are sitting 10ft away splitting lobsters by placing the knike on the lobster and hitting the knife w/ a 2x4.
We had margaritas because it was 2 for $20- quite a bargain on this expensive island. Stav ordered a Bloody Mary and got a double for Alon to drink although neither one of them had drank one before. The looks on their faces explained the disgust they tasted. It definitely takes some time to get used to. Then Stav asked the waiter if she could return it! Haha. We laughed. She asked if she said it right. We said yes, we just haven't heard of anyone asking if they can return a drink they ordered. The waiter said no but she got a discount.
We hung out the rest of the night. It stormed on and off so it was nice the sun wasn't out. I don't need the sun to be out. It's always out in CA and my skin doesn't like it. I'm so responsible now that I'm older.
