The roller coaster ride to Sauraha 12/19
Took our time getting up this am. The bed was really hard so the sleep was shit. We had an omelette and chapati for breakfast w some marsala tea. The fog was low over the mountains which made the morning chilly, but nothing as cold as the mountains.
We chatted w Marina some more and low and behold our dogs showed up! Blackie and whitey! Black or was so happy to see Andy she was rolling around on the ground. The innkeepers were throwing rocks at them until they realized we wanted the dogs around. Blackie is a lover and Andy loved her too. I suggested we take them home- why not? We headed back for the bus area and blackie followed us the whole way. She so scared of cars, she waits for them to pass then runs to catch up w us.
We had to leave her (so sad) and jumped on bus #1 to reach the main road. we kept saying Chitwan and no one understood what we were saying. So jumped on a bus going south (right direction) and figured they knew where we were going.
The ride was nuts! I sat in the back where they fit 6 instead of the allocated 5. The woman next to me was holding on for dear life. I figured she was going to puke so when the dude got up next to me, I moved over to let the new guy sit next to her. Yep, granny puked in her bags and threw them out the window. It was bumpy and swervy. At one point I was bounced 6 inches out of my seat. That hurts on an ass. Good thing I don't get carsick, but Andy does. I saw him cover his face and I knew he was in trouble. He recovered and all was well for the next 4 hours. We didn't hear the locals go "ohhh" so I guess we didn't almost die.
There are gas cans lined up along the road waiting for gas. The places we are eating are using wood to cook food. Gas stations had so many trucks and cars lined up down the road it was ridiculous. Nepal is in dire need of the constitution to be resolved w India.
They kicked us off the bus and we asked several locals how to get to Chitwan. We trusted what they said because we heard the same thing from multiple sources. We jumped on bus #3 to get to Tadi. Once off in Tadi, a taxi offered $7 for a ride of 8 km. hell no dude. The 4 hour ride just cost that much. We'll take the bus that's "not possible ". Then a small bus pulled up and offered us a ride for $1. We had to sit on top. No problem, we've done this before.
We made it to Sauraha by 4:00 and are staying at a dudes place who's son lives in SF as a sushi chef. It's central so why not and $6 a night. They don't have much food because of no gas so we are next door. We grabbed a couple Everest beers, veg pakotas, and veg and non veg Dal Baht. It was delish! Off to bed early after a couple sips of our whiskey. Hehe.
