Down the mountain and beers w Americans 12/21
Up and at em this morning with the sunlight from the window we're sleeping next to shinning light in our eyes. Snow had covered the mountains and the treetops from the storm last night. We headed down for a big breakfast of freeze dried granola and tea to fuel our big hike. We unfortunately had to walk down the mountain since the pass was closed. Andy finally accepted it and we were off before 10.
The hike down was really nice. The first part was steep and over scree but then it turned into dirt and rocks. We hiked over many of the tributaries that ran down into the grand river off the mountain. The river was an amazing crystal blue oxygenated water coming down from the mountains. We saw all kinds of wildflowers, yellow and pink, strawberries, pink roses, all growing with the towering the mountains covered in snow in the background. The hike down was peaceful, not too hard as most of it was a gradual decline, however we were hauling ass trying to make it off the mountain as fast as possible. It took us 4 hours to hit the dirt road at the bottom. Took us a little bit to make sure that we were at the right stop but we were and had our peanut butter and crackers for lunch while we waited for someone to drive by. We tried hitchhiking for a while and finally after about half an hour had a kid pick us up. We jumped in the back of the truck and he took us to the intersection of the next big road where we immediately jumped on the bus for Bariloche. It was packed and we had our big ass bags. Andy got up for an old woman to take a seat because that's the kind of man he is.
The temperature dropped and it was damn cold. I had a tshirt on during our hike, now back to heavy coast and beanie. We made it back to our trusty hostel and scored a private room this time!! Yay! An amazing hot shower was just what we needed. Back out on the town at 5:30 for the cervezaria section of town. We hit up Bachmann then Antares. Antares has happy hour 6:30-8:30 everyday and 12-1 Sunday and Wednesdays. I don't think I could change my eating and sleeping hours to meet this country's happy hour. The restaurant we were eyeing opens at 8! Oh well, we made reservations for our last night here in the 23. We are going to leave this country in a big way w meat and wine.
I started w the honey beer which was really good but strong. After some calimari I overheard the two people next to me at the bar speaking English! The guy said something to me in Spanish and I relied in English. Yay finally someone we can talk to!! They were the first English speaking people we've met. We chatted the whole night. They are brother and sister going to do the TDP circuit- Mitchell and Rachel from the US. We had a great night and drank too much. It's bound to happen. It was their first night in Bariloche so I apologized they were spending the night talking to Americans, but we needed it.
