Late night donkey show 12/28

Up at 7 and we went to bed before 9. That would have been a solid night sleep except I had to spend an hour scratching my mosquito bites and it was a bit chilly. I slept w my hands on my stomach to keep me warm. Every time the wind blew we felt it. The blanket didn't help much. Then I figured out that I could curl up in fetal position in the hammock to help w the warmth. It was actually comfortable. Oh, then of course was the donkey. Around 10pm I woke up to a wrestling noise next to us. It definitely made me worried. I grabbed my flashlight while I was in the hammock and shinned it on a fucking donkey trying to get in my bag! We shooed it away. Andy was just sitting there watching it go down, not knowing what was happening. Ha!
We left our little oasis without breakfast so we could get a good hammock at Cabo. We said goodbye to Negrito and saw another poor cat that was missing the skin on its back, apparently from a Jaguar. It looked like it was healing well. Not sure how long that's going to last w an open wound in the Jungle.
They told us of a shortcut to Pueblito. Thank god we didn't have to go the way we came.
We walked straight up for an hour. It was fucking hot and the sun wasn't even out. We were soaked. Good climb except when I stepped on a large wet log, slipped and fell on it on my stomach w a loud "huuh!". Fucker that hurt.
Yesterday the wind was literally howling. It kinda freaked me out but realized there were no lions or tigers or bears. On our way up, we heard more howling. This time it was real from wild pigs or something of the sort. They were close and sounded large. Andy said it's OK until they stop making the sound. Then the sound stopped. I was freakin. We walked quietly as they started w the noise again, then I stepped on a branch and they stopped dammit. We got away and didn't see them. We were the only ones around.
Pueblito was a shit show. Tourists walking around the natives' homes. We walked through as quickly as possible running past slow walkers. The climb down was all on boulders. Not my favorite. We had to pass a lot of people that were impossibly slow. No patience for them.
We finally made it to Cabo and it was the shittiest of shows! So many fucking people! There's another route to Cabo that's really easy so people were just streaming in. There were huts of hammocks and the open area was full of tents. Worst of all, there was definitely no snorkeling, the water was too rough. We left our private little paradise on Playa Blanca for this? Hell no. Well we don't have to stay here! We drank some beers and ate our sammies and headed out. Fuck all this.
The next beach over was better but still busy and no snorkeling. We took a dip in the ocean to cool off and wash our sweat away. Didn't help much when you have to put on sweaty clothes again. Goes to show you have to take people's suggestions w a gain of salt, especially if the person is a single 20-something who wants to party. We should have stayed another day at Playa Blanca w Negrito and our private waterfall.
We practically ran out of the park. About 2 hours and another 40 to get from the park entrance to the main road. We asked someone for water on our way out. We didn't have any all day (just beer) and we were almost out of sweat. We gave our bracelets to some hippies to get into the park and jumped on the bus for Santa Marta.
Back at Azul Hostel and in the same room. We grabbed some sliced mangos and mini donuts with hotdogs on the way. Sooo good! Why didn't I think of that?? The shower was the best thing ever.
Out for dinner but we grabbed some drinks first since it was only 6. We sat at the square and people watched. The night was lively. Some beer and mojitos and ready for dinner.
We ate at Donde Chucho and sat outside. The wind was blowing and it felt good. A bottle of wine, mixed plate of seafood, and mushroom risotto- mmmm. Great dinner w entertainment. Anywhere you sit at the square performers will entertain and then we tip. We saw a violinist, band, then breakdancers. I was feeling good so let's have a couple drinks! I got a mojito, Andy had a girly drink, then I made a bad decision and we had two drinks of whiskey. That put me over the edge. We made it back to the room safe and sound (somehow).
