Chill recovery day before Isla San Andrés 12/29
Woke up in Santa Marta earley, worried that I was going to have a hangover from hell. I could barely open my eyes. I did not need that second whiskey last night, bad decision. Person on the top bunk was moving a lot and a piece of wood fell on my head. He's probably pissed with all the alarms going off in the morning for no reason.
We had breakfast of huevos rancheros and I was feeling pretty good, I'm pretty sure I was still drunk. We sat at breakfast and figure out what we are going to do for the next seven days. We started looking up flights within Columbia, outside Columbia, whatever was cheap. Then I looked at all the destinations that fly out of the Cartagena airport. I saw a budget airline that flies to San Andres island near Nicaragua (still Colombia). That's cool, I thought we had a go all the way to Bogotá to fly to that island. I checked it out and the flights are only a couple hundred bucks. Awesome!
We jumped on the next bus to Cartagena to spend the rest of the day hanging out since we are going to fly out the following morning. I was struggling on the bus, I needed liquids and greasy spoon. The bus ride was pretty uneventful besides our mosquito bites making us crazy. When we got near Cartagena the bus driver made all of us grab our luggage from the back because Cartagena "was full" and we would have to jump out of the minibus really quickly in the street. We went back to the hostel where we originally stayed but they were booked solid. They said all hostels are probably going to be booked solid for New Year's. We walked around and found a hostle that had a private room available so we took it for the night. We are looking forward to having some private time finally after staying in the dorm room for several nights. We walked around the town, we got some jewelry and knickknacks and more importantly got some mangoes and found the chorizo guy. Andy let his excitement get a hold of him and ordered two of the chorizo plates which are not small. We sat at the square to people watch, Andy had a beer I had a nonalcoholic beverage. We finally made it out for dinner around seven but we were still full from our street food and munchies. We just had a small dinner of ceviche and crab claws at a nearby restaurant where the valley girls from California were way too much to sit next to. We called it a night, we were really tired and had to get up at seven for a flight out the following morning. Didn't quite have a easy night sleep due to the drunk ass kids in the dorm next to us. No soundproof walls around here.
