Taking in as much as we can with 6 hours in Bangkok 4/19
Up at 4am w/ Andy.
Didn’t try to go back to sleep since all I could think about was our tight
layover in Bali. I could hear the call to prayer from our bathroom at 4:45,
dang that sucks to have to pray that early. We took our time packing and got
breakfast at 6. It was muggy from the rain the day before. Eggs and rolls w/
honey, coffee, tea. The coffee here is really good, too bad I don’t really want
to drink it since it’s so strong. We watched the sun change the sky colors
again over the ocean and tried to snap pics of the kittens on the property.
They are so scared and untrusting of people, just like their mom and dad.
We took a taxi to the airport before 7, not even bothering
asking the people at the hotel what time we should arrive, we learned our lesson.
The town has one giant road around it that’s one way so we drove through,
seeing the rest of the town we didn’t explore before. We stood in line at the
checkin counter. It took 30 min for the lady to help the people in front of us
and us. They are just slow here, lesson learned. We’ll have plenty of time for
our Bangkok flight I keep telling myself, we land at 10 and the next flight is
12.
The flight to Bali was chill. We waited for our luggage in
the new domestic terminal, the whole airport is new and very nice. Our bags arrived
and Andy's pockets were open- fuckers. Hopefully nothing too valuable were in them. We pretty much ran to the international terminal, it was really hot and
hard to run w/ our heavy bags. It’s 1030 when we make it to the checkin counter
for AirAsia. I print our baggage tickets but I can’t print our boarding passes.
No worries, we would have had to stand in line anyways. A dude said he’d let us
go to the front close to 1120 when they close, OK I guess, at least he’ll help
us out. There’s no way this line is moving fast enough. Luckily, we got in line
w/ another couple who were able to talk their way into the speed lane since
they had everything printed. Basically, get in whatever line you want, they
don’t ask questions in Indonesia.
We made it to the gate by 1045! Woot! Enough time for beers
and lunch at Hard Rock. So exciting to have that part over w/. Over 4 hours to
Bangkok w/ a one hour time change. We get through immigration quickly and
basically walk right past customs and no one stopped us.
A cab ride to our hotel and out the door by 5:30. We took
the sky tram to the river and jumped on a water taxi two stops up to Chinatown,
seeing all the expensive hotels Bangkok has to offer along the way. The first
part of our food tour was a duck soup at a street vendor and Andy grabbed two
Chang’s. It was delish, and the spice not too spicy. Next we ate some sweet
green mango and pineapple w/ spices. Next up were shrimp grilled w/ another
street vendor and Andy got some pork next door, of course w/ some more beer. We
took a tuk tuk back to the area of our hotel to go to the night market, but not
before the driver took us to a shirt shop. The guy at the store wasn’t too
happy when he realized Andy wasn’t interested and basically kicked us out. Whatever.
We walked around the night market and took in all the sounds
and sights and sex workers. No ping pong show tonight thanks, next time. A
couple cocktails along the way and our final stop was a restaurant for some
Miang kham, leaf wrapped ginger, peanuts, tamarind, coconut. What would a trip
to Bangkok be w/o a massage! We got a 60 min foot and shoulder massage. I’m
pretty sure they were talking shit as both of us had sores on our feet from
scuba. It was a mix of tickling and upmost pain w/ whatever she was gabbing
into my feet. The head massage was the best, then moved on to mini acrobatics
w/ my back. In all it was very nice and just what we needed after another crazy
day. Back to the hotel by 1130.
